(I Fixed It!) Gsuite Email Receiving But Not Sending – Or Going to SPAM

This article is for you if you have a Gsuite email address (Gmail backend, your domain frontend) and you’re able to receive emails, but can’t send them. This article is also applicable for those who can send but their emails go to spam.

These following steps will not only get you to restart sending emails but also prevent your legitimate emails from going into spam in client accounts.

Congratulations (NOT) – Your IP has been labeled as a SPAM generating IP by Google (and possibly by other services too). That’s okay, we’ll fix it.

Yes, even if it’s a Google Apps/ Google Domains/ G Suite / Google hosted mail / Gmail on your own Domain name IP. This can happen for 3 reasons:

  1. You’re actually a spammer – Hi, how are you?
  2. A malicious script is using that IP to send spam mail.
  3. Your email is being used as the “sender” of various auto-generated spam emails.

In this article I’ll tell you in the most to-the-point way to tell Google you are not spamming and start sending emails.

The Error Messages (for which this article is appropriate):

Message not delivered
There was a problem delivering your message to an-email-address@gmail.com. See the technical details below or try resending in a few minutes.

Followed by an error message that says ” The response was:

421 4.7.28 [209.85.220.65 15] Our system has detected an unusual rate of unsolicited mail originating from your IP address. To protect our users from spam, mail sent from your IP address has been temporarily rate limited. Please visit https://support.google.com/mail/?p=UnsolicitedRateLimitError to review our Bulk Email Senders Guidelines. k8sor25509159pgm.33 – gsmtp ”

The Solution

Then After 2 F**king Hours of Forum Scouting, I Have a 2 Step Solution for You.

You will need the following to fix this:

  1. Access to our domain’s hosting panel to change the DNS settings. You literally have to just add 2 TXT entries, nothing else.
  2. Access to your GSuite Admin Panel at Google.com/a/your-domain-name.extension

If you don’t have either of these as of this moment, pause, get those details and come back to this (you might want to bookmark this).

If You Have Credentials for Your Hosting and Gsuite, Read on:

  1. Go to https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/checkmx/
  2. Enter your Gsuite domain name
  3. See the list of errors. Ignore the rest (if email was working fine earlier) and just fix the following error: “DKIM is not set up”. To fix this, you will need to login to your Gsuite.
  4. Once logged into Gsuite, go to Apps -> Gsuite -> Settings for Gmail -> Authenticate Email . There, generate new record, enter that as a TXT field in your domain’s DNS, wait for it to propagate, then click on “Start Authentication” on that page.
Be patient with the DNS records propagation. Use a tool like https://www.whatsmydns.net/#TXT/ to check when the TXT record has propagated. Once you see that the DNS has propagated, log out of your Gsuite account, log back in and click “start authentication”. Then you should see something like:
  5. Done! You’re good to go.

If this didn’t work for you, comment below where you’re stuck and let’s try to get this sorted for you.

Smart TV vs Normal TV – Are Smart TVs Dumb?

What is a Smart TV?

Originally known as “connected TVs”, Smart TVs are types that can connect to the internet for social networking, normal browsing activity, streaming on-demand rental services, as well as playing internet music and TV stations, in addition to streaming ordinary cable or satellite TV content. The best Smart TVs offer entertainment, social networking and functional features that normal TVs don’t and in 2016 there’s a range of Smart TVs available under £500. This was definitely not the case in 2014 or 2015 in Britain.

How different are smart TVs from normal TVs?

Unlike the normal UK TV models that are based on mere integrated circuits, smart TVs run on operating system software that has pre-installed apps, although there is no standard operating system across the board. Popular UK brands Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony – they all have their custom built operating systems with their different layouts and usability. While traditional TV sets have a few standard inputs and output ports, the top reviewed smart TVs tend to offer more options to connect to devices. Thus almost every smart TV in UK incorporates a variety of input options including multiple HDMI and USB ports, and allows networking with a number of home devices and smartphones.

Something about smart TVs that is not found on other normal TVs in the UK is the ability to stream on-demand video services such as Hulu and Netflix. In late 2015 and early 2016, there has been popularity of these services and the debate about how people can actually reduce the cost of watching content in Britain by incorporating on-demand content into their day-to-day life.

Besides, users can browse social sites such as Facebook and Twitter through apps, thus these devices compete in that way, with the best smartphones and most powerful computers.

How do smart TVs work? Technology

  • Juggling of graphics/video processing
  • video streaming
  • managing internet connectivity
  • managing multiple screens
  • memory management

Smart TVs do all this using an integrated computer-like framework. These TVs use processors in order to handle a volume of tasks. Some Smart TVs also come with extended internal memory and external memory slots in the UK.

They also use software to allow reception and processing of complex and multiple instructions, as well as relaying back of useful feedback. The world has experienced the Full HD (1080x1920p), and Ultra HD 4K (about 4000p) screens that deliver sharper and more detailed screen images and is anticipating the 4K Blue-ray discs that are expected to deliver extra quality – more details and sharpness, but cost more.

Applications are either preinstalled or can be installed just like smartphones and computers. These applications allow watching on-demand video services and using social networking services like Twitter and Facebook. Many of these TVs come with in-built WiFi for internet connectivity, others connect to the internet using an ethernet cable. In 2016, you’ll hardly find any without WiFi capabilities.

Are they worth it? Let’s discuss pricing and features

According to Topuptv.co.uk, you can buy a 50 inch Smart TV in less than 500 pounds, which was definitely not possible in the UK earlier this year. Smart TVs offer much more content than the traditional normal TVs and are slowly becoming an integral part of modern home entertainment. However, some argue that they’re overpriced although this is changing in 2016. Smart TVs can be worth the cost especially when you consider the price of separate internet connectivity gadgets, set top boxes etc which are not required with Smart TVs. The fact that smart TVs offer more features make them acceptable at their higher costs and are better options to cable TV if your family is used to watching movies, online streaming services, occasional series and live sports.

Thank you for visiting this page!

With all the information above, you can clearly understand why smart TVs have become so popular over the years. Their evolution has marked a turning point in the way we view tv.

WordAds vs Adsense – How to Maximise Revenue from Your Blog?

wordads vs adsense

Wordads by Automattic (the creators of WordPress) is an advertising system like Google Adsense to monetise your blog or website. If you’re confused about the two and wondering which one to use for your website, get this right:

  1. You CANNOT run WordAds on a non WordPress.com website! Not even on self hosted WordPress websites.
  2. You CANNOT run Google Adsense on a WordPress.com hosted website – whether it’s free, premium or business.

So may I request everyone who does not have a WordPress.com hosted site to stop worrying about Wordads and focus on getting more traffic and optimising Adsense ads please? If you have a non-wordpress.com hosted website, you have 10 seconds to close this page and stop worrying about all this Wordads hype.

Okay and now for the 0.01% of you left, who have a wordpress.com hosted blog/website, please note the following:

  1. Even if you have a wordpress.com hosted blog, you can’t run Wordads on the classic yourblog.wordpress.com type URL.
  2. Your blog must be upgraded to one of the three plans to qualify for WordAds.
  3. You do not auto-qualify to run WordAds. Your website must have a certain minimum traffic threshold.
  4. You need to have a certain level of user engagement, no thin content, no auto-generated traffic!
  5. You need to apply and wait for them to approve you for Wordads.

Now, for the 0.01% of the 0.01%  that tick all the points above: you can apply for Wordads here. Many news sites and reputable blogs have claimed that with Wordads you can make more money than Google Adsense but to be honest I don’t believe that. An honest comparision can’t be made between Google Adsense and Automattic WordAds because a lot depends on your Adsense ad placements and how good you are with it. With Wordads you don’t have control over where to display ads, they have their fixed pre-decided areas where they’ll place ads (mostly flash based good quality ads).

This is also a wordpress.com hosted website and I’ve applied for Wordads today. Since there is no mention of the minimum traffic requirements, I’m not sure if cafearjun.com will qualify. If it does, I’ll update this post with the kind of earnings you can expect with WordAds.

Until then, keep well.

Update – 6 hours after applying for WordAds – Got Approved! 🙂

Awesomeness happened and I got an email saying that cafearjun.com has been approved for WordAds! I’ll share some stats on the traffic on this blog to give you an idea of what you are looking at in terms of traffic.

How Much Can You Expect to Earn From WordAds?

I’ve been reading about this on the web for sometime now and it seems you can forget about making any decent money unless your users come primarily from the US or Europe.

  • Mark Madrona report from the Filipino Tribe reports his earnings to $104 from apprx 75000 impressions. That is a CPM of 0.13 USD or 1/10th of a cent per impression. His audience is primarily from the Philippines. And if you’re a blogger, you’ll know how hard it is to generate 75000 impressions. I see of lot of other ads on Mark’s site now, he’s probably moved to WordPress self hosted now. Would be interesting to know how he is doing now in terms of revenue.
  • Prannay Jha who writes mostly for an Indian audience on his blog Subtle Words has reported figures that would even disappoint Not for Profits. I love his writing style and probably because of the Indian target, he can’t rely on Blogging for a livelihood for sure.
  • Dennis who writes about technology and is a really positive guy reports in his post an earning of 133 USD for 67000 ad impressions. This is way better than Mark and Prannay’s earnings possibly because Dennis gets US traffic.

I get 70% US traffic and 20% Indian traffic, let me complete a month and I’ll update how much I earn 🙂 exciting times! Thank you WordAds!

Update 26th December 2015

Earnings are $4.55 for this month. That’ll just about buy me a Starbucks coffee.

Considering that in the period between 20th November and 20th December the blog got just under 7000 unique users, I don’t understand why the impressions are just 4427 – maybe because I run the ad only at the bottom of the page and not everyone scrolls right to the bottom of the post.

My earnings in terms of impressions vs dollars made are on the lines that other bloggers are making.

I’ll try changing the layout to something that allows ads at the start and end and see how that impacts the earnings.

Will keep you all  posted, see you next month.

making money online is no magic

Why read this article? Who Am I?

I’m Arjun, have run 800+ websites in parallel, made money from those using every possible strategy there is. I started in 2004 and it took me 3 years of learning to start making money online in 2007 and I’ve never looked back since. Of all these ventures, the most money I’ve made is in projects that don’t really need any technical know-how, don’t require any upfront investment and don’t require lying or cheating or conning anyone. These kind of online businesses are not only the most fun to run but also are the longest lasting. There are hundreds of people out there that will teach you a step-by-step method of making money. Yes they do work, but they come with an expiry date – think – if there’s a short cut technique for making money, sooner or later it will be exposed to way too many people for it to be effective anymore. Don’t go for that or you’ll never have a reliable online business ever.

In this Blog post, I will explain a way of creating an online property that will require you to put in hard-work, use your brains, and create a website that will help thousands but at the same time will never go out of fashion and will continue growing in value with each passing month. I will be very direct and strict and put numbers in place that you will need to follow – provided you do exactly as I say, you WILL build an online property (website) that will make you money and will be a superb asset in the long term.

An Online Business Can Be Built Only With Ethics

To Make Things Clear – First I’ll Answer Some Basic Questions

  1. Who is this system for?
    • This system is for someone who is disciplined, has a decent IQ, believes in honesty and in the act of giving and has the capability to self-motivate. It is not easy sitting in a quiet room working toward a goal for months on end. People tend to give up, they can’t follow through, get demotivated or attracted to other schemes that promise more riches quicker. If you are one of those people, then don’t waste your time starting this activity because while I promise you that this will make you money, a lot of it and it is a stable business to be in, I can also tell you that it won’t be easy, will require hard work and it won’t happen overnight.
  2. How long before I start making money online?
    • Your first dollars will start coming in, in 3-6 months, but it will take a minimum of 9 months to start making money that’ll justify you quitting your job. Some can start making a lot of money very quickly, whilst some can take slightly longer, but money you will make and you will ENJOY the process and the highs and lows that come with it.
  3. How much money can I make online?
    • In 2 years time your business will be worth 100,000 dollars plus and should be generating USD 5000 plus monthly in profit for you. I say this because with my technique, the average businesses I’ve seen have been valued at over USD 100,000 in 2 years’ time, hence this is a safe estimate figure to go by. After 9 months you can expect to be making enough money to sustain yourself comfortably. Just like any aspect of life, there will be some of you making a lot of money and some not so much. That will depend on the decisions you make and the smart work and hard work you put in.
  4. How much investment will I need?
    • About $350.
  5. What skills do I need?
    • Superb written English is necessary if you have a low budget. If you have money to invest, then you can hire top-class writers and they will write for you. The figure of $350 above is valid if you’re capable and willing to write yourself.
    • General street smartness.
    • Some business acumen will be handy, but not necessary.
    • Flare to read.
  6. How much time do I need to invest?
    • It’s an alternate career and at the start it requires as much time as any other profession – so I would say 8 hours a day to start with. Later when the business starts to make money, a lot of it is going to be on auto-pilot and at that time you can reduce that 8 hours a day to 5 hours a day or even move out completely by recruiting and training people to manage the business. You can also start it part-time along with a day job, but that would increase your gestation period by many months depending on the number of hours you put in per week.
  7. What technical skills do I need?
    • None, you just need to be a savvy Internet user.
  8. It’s an intangible business, can it evaporate overnight?
    • The business we’re talking about relies on people who visit your website. The search engines are a brilliant way to get users on your website, but if Search Engine Optimisation is done wrongly, then Google, Bing and other search engines can remove your website from their listings. If you follow Google Webmaster Guidelines and do stuff honestly without the intention of manipulating search rankings, then you have nothing to worry about and just like big businesses like Walmart, your business will not go anywhere. It will grow bigger and better with each passing month as you continue working on it.
  9. Will I need to recruit people?
    • Initially no, after a few years, maybe.

Let’s Get Started – Here’s a Summary of My Online Business Technique

Arjun's 3 Phase Online Money Making

Phase 1: Creating a web property worth $100,000 in the next 2 years with average monthly profit of $5000 per month.

You will create a new Brand in the business sector or niche of your choice by identifying:

  1. Product topics where there’s little or no information on the Internet. Product problems that are yet unsolved but are affecting hundreds or thousands of people every month. I will teach you how to identify keywords where there is interest but where little help is available. Here’s an example: People buy baby carriers in the US and UK all the time but new parents in the hiking community have been looking for baby carriers that would be ideal for hiking. There was no such information available online until I created a website on that topic. Another example in the same niche – baby carriers for parents with bad backs – there was no information available until we addressed it. Long story short, we addressed these problems, identified products after thorough study that would suit each customer group and suggested what people should buy. Monthly profit after this activity and 6 months of constant legitimate hard-work – $1000 per month 100% legally, ethically and honestly in a way that genuinely benefits people.
  2. Content marketing and Affiliate marketing will be used by us to monetise your business.

This will enable you to create a Brand in 9 months to 2 years that you will own 100% and that will be worth many thousands of dollars.

Phase 2: Taking that web property to the big league by expanding the brand and launching self-branded products to touch $200,000 to $1,000,000 (1 million US dollars) in sales.

You will reach this phase in 9 months to 3 years depending on how much time, energy and effort you put into your online business. I can’t say when you’ll reach this phase but I can promise that you WILL if you continue on the path I show you. In this phase you will develop your brand into a household name and will use all the experience and knowledge that you’ve acquired during content research. In this phase you will learn to source products from China, put your own branding on them and start selling on popular e-commerce websites like Amazon. This will give your business a whole new revenue stream.

Phase 3: Using your product and niche knowledge to create products that are better than anything available in the market. You will go on to make a multi-million dollar business in 5 years.

In this phase you will start innovating products, start filing your own patents and produce products in your own little niche that would be better than anything else in the market. In this phase I will teach you how to turn your very profitable Brand into a multi-million dollar business.

The Details, Getting Started and My Fee:

What you’ve read above is a very brief overview of my foolproof method of creating a genuine business online that makes serious money and genuinely helps the online community. This technique of making money online will stand the test of time and with the right leader go on to become a multi-million dollar business. I charge $200 for sending you Phase 1 of my course which is spread over 6 months and 12 emails full of content, audio and video. Of 100 people who join my course’s phase 1, only 12 go on to join Phase 2 because as I mentioned in this article, 88% people don’t have the patience, will-power, discipline or self-motivation to do this. IT IS NOT EASY! If you choose to go through to phase 2, I charge $3000 for the next 3 months as all material is sent to you over the next 3 months. This material contains everything you need to know to set up a process to import products from China into the US, making the brand bigger, the regulations, the customer service, returns, and profit margins. Of all businesses that complete Phase 2, I personally get involved to take businesses through to phase 3 where I contribute in the innovation of your products and help take your business into the big league.

What’s next:

My course is opening again soon and if you want to be a part of it, please leave your name and email in the form below and we’ll inform you when that happens.

There are innumerable entrepreneurs making hundreds of thousands of dollars per month from their online businesses – some from Podcasts, videos, amazon, affiliate marketing, adsense, fiverr, ebay, advertising, clickbank and what not, but they all have the following in common: their primary objective is to make their user happy and to satisfy the user’s demands, they’re all honest entrepreneurs who work hard and run processes that are legit and legal and finally they’re in it for the long haul not into the “make money fast” or “get rich quick” schemes.

Unfortunately Measure / MobileOcr / Engriks Has Stopped – Android Mega Viruses

Unfortunately Measure Has Stopped

Unfortunately mobileOcr Has Stopped

Unfortunately engriks Has Stopped

Please note: This post has been updated many times, and now we have found a solution together. Scroll down to the last paragraph to go straight to the solution.

Welcome to the world of super-annoying but super powerful android phone viruses. These viruses can’t be removed by restarting the phone, stopping apps, removing apps – what’s more, even doing a hard reset where the entire phone is formatted to factory default settings doesn’t remove these super stubborn malware like Measure, engriks and mobileOcr!

You would think – Why not install an anti-virus, right? Anti Virus software like “NQ Security” (that come as a default with Gionee phones) have no idea what is going on and are no good for these viruses. I scanned the phone and NQ security didn’t even report malware or virus, forget removing or cleaning it. Even McAfee has no idea about dealing with this according to some forums. AVG anti-virus evidently does uninstall the virus but it re-installs itself a few seconds later.

I tried looking everywhere around the Internet and I have no idea how to stop the constant popups that just won’t let me use the phone. For you to come to a solution to this problem and install a proper malware cleaner, you need to go to GooglePlay Store and install the app right? The absolutely horrendous popups with “unfortunately this app has stopped” will keep coming up relentlessly. You will get .5 to 1 second intervals when you can quickly click parts of the screen, but I swear, this is called Robot Apocalypse. Why isn’t there an option in Android to stop App Error popups altogether? There should be a way to pause it. Application Error Report details mentioned on android.com make no sense to a non-technical guy like me and doesn’t help.

I saw someone recommending installing Ghost Push Trojan Killer by going to the Play store, but I’m unable to reach the play store. Someone said install Titanium Back Up Pro and it will solve the problem.

I’ll call the Gionee service centre and see what they have to say. Guys, please post in the comments below if you do happen to find a solution.

Update: Do Not Try Any of The Following Solutions (these were recommended by experts but didn’t work)

  1. Firstly try Going to Settings -> Apps -> Running Apps -> Disable Measure and other apps that are causing the problem. It will probably not fix the problem as it didn’t do for me.
  2. Keep the irritating dialogue box pressed for a few seconds, then it will take you to the running apps and show you the app that’s causing this dialog to open. Disable that app. This also didn’t solve my problem.
  3. Switch off the phone, remove the battery and re-insert it after a few minutes. And the irritating popups are gone! But they re-appear after a few minutes.
  4. What if I have a non-removable battery? In that case you’ll have to take it to the service centre.

Here’s a Way to Disable The Irritating Popup Messages Temporarily

Disable the wifi and restart the phone. The popups won’t appear at all. But unfortunately once you start the WI-Fi, the popups will restart.

What Happened At The Service Centre?

I just came back home with my phone cleaned by the Gionee service centre. The system looks new, the icons are different so they’ve definitely done something. After switching it on and connecting to the WIFI:

I START GETTING THE DAMN MESSAGES AGAIN!! SOMEONE SAVE ME!

punching the virus maker

The money I’ve paid to get the Gionee phone repaired has given me a 1 month warranty. I’m taking my phone to them again today/tomorrow. I’ll update what happens next. Until then, please keep the solutions coming in the comments.

Update 29th October 2015

After going back to the Gionee service centre and telling them about this recurring problem, they said that in that case the phone will have to be sent back to the company. They’ve now asked me to come back in a few days. Until then, I am without a phone. Reminds me of the early 2000s when landline phones were the only way to contact anyone, blessing in disguise.

Update 7th of November 2015

My phone is back from the Gionee service centre with a new looking OS and the problem is fixed! They took about 5 days, completely reset the phone and Engriks, Mobile OCR and Measure have gone! I’ve now changed the settings so no application can ever get installed without my permission, non-trustworthy apps don’t get installed and all kinds of auto installations are disabled.

I apologise that we couldn’t find a DIY solution for this problem. Those who are getting these errors must contact their respective service centres immediately. My phone was out of warranty and Gionee charged only $4 (Rs 200) for this.

Finally, my phone is fixed!

Update 26th December 2015 – An Easy DIY Solution Found!

Firstly a big thanks to users “Indian” and “Marius” and all other users who helped in trying to find a solution.

HappyAtWork01

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Play Store. Measure/ Mobilocr / Engriks  will annoy you and won’t let you enter username and password if you’re not logged in. So make sure you have copied and pasted the password before-hand so you can enter it quickly.
  2. Search for “CM Security” and install it!
CM Security Antivirus AppLock Android Apps on Google Play
  3. This will most probably fix your phone after the scan. For a small percentage of people, this will not solve the problem. In that case, go to the next step:
  4. Search for an app called “Ghost Push Trojan Killer” and install it!
Ghost Push Trojan Killer Android Apps on Google Play
  5. Run it! Requires rooting your phone. Allow it – let it do its thing and in 99% cases this will fix your phone.

Once again, a big thank you to everyone who helped out. 🙂

Mobility Aids and Rollators

When do you require a mobility aid?

There are many reasons why mobility devices like walkers rollators are needed. They’re a combination of age-specific and ailment specific reasons. Here are the top 3:

  • The body-weight bearing ability of a person may decrease due to conditions like arthritis, fracture, surgery etc. in which case support may be required.
  • Respiratory problems, aging or prolonged illness can result in fatigue.
  • Dizziness or neurological problems can lead to poor balance.

It’s difficult, both physically and mentally not being able to walk independently without external help. However, the use of rollators can make you feel independent and self-reliant. Rollators ensure safety of the user by reducing the risk of falling, making it easy to get around and even providing extras like a seat, cup holder, tray and/or basket to carry stuff around.

What Is A Rollator?

A rollator is basically a rolling walker or a walker with wheels. It has wheels and brakes to make movement easy and smooth and to provide control during walking pauses. Most good ones have brakes that lock, so users can lean on the rollator slightly or even sit if the rollator has one built in. Rollators with big wheels do well with slightly uneven surfaces. Many people use rollators both indoors and outdoors. Unlike the traditional walker which needs to be lifted with every step you take, a rollator just moves with you as you only have to push it forward in order to move. Rollators are the perfect mobility aid for those who want to remain active and move quickly.

Difference between Rollator and Walker

Both rollator and walker are for those who have difficulty in mobility. However, there are a few differences between both.

  • The first difference is that the walker has four legs and the rollator has either three or four wheels attached to the legs.
  • In order to move forward the user has to lift and set down the walker with each step, on the other hand the rollator have wheels to move forward and a brake system to control the speed.
  • Walkers are suitable for those people who are mobile enough but are not able to bear weight on one or both legs for any reason such as some sort of surgery. Rollators are suitable for those who have balance and stability issues.

Reasons to Choose Rollators

There are many reasons to choose a rollator for your mobility aid. People, who want to remain active despite of their mobility challenges, should best use a rollator. Those who travel a lot or those who want to spend time outdoors should consider buying a rollator.

  • A rollator is more stable than a walking cane and provides greater support.
  • A rollator is more convenient to use than a walker and provides greater mobility.
  • It provides better support to those who have less endurance and cannot stand for a longer period of time.
  • It is suitable for those who have weak arms or cannot lift weight.

Google Plus: Hours Wasted, Listings/Reviews Removed!

Here’s a Google Plus – Page & Local Listing Nightmare!

After noticing my Google plus page on the local listings, I decided to start sharing the URL with my customers so the page could get some reviews. We got some excellent reviews so I thought why not update a nice profile pic, add some pictures, a description and make sure the marker location is precise.

I did that and BOOM! My account got suspended with a message saying “Your page is disabled and won’t appear on Google.” So I went through the entire guidelines page and without any hint whatsoever, was made to figure out, what out of the 100 things I’ve may’ve done wrong. So I removed the links from my description, removed pics that may’ve contained text etc. and it emerged that I had changed the address to match another local listing of my business that someone else had created.

Google Plus Page & Local Listing removed!

Now because 2 listings with the same address aren’t allowed, I started trying to verify the other listing. Despite that having the correct phone number (a mobile number with a preceeding 0), Google couldn’t make a call to verify that listing and said “call failed” after multiple attempts.

When I woke up this morning, this is what I saw for the listings of the 2 centres of my business:

Google Local Business Page Disabled

Both the listings have been Disabled despite having clearly distinct addresses and being two disconnected centres.

The 5 hours I spent last night deleting a listing, writing emails to people to remove the local account so I could remove duplicate accounts – all gone into the trash can.

We have hidden your page and removed it from Google Maps due to changes in our system.

All customer reviews gone!

Yes, all reviews that my lovely customers had written for the business, the hours they had spent writing those – all GONE!

The message points me to https://support.google.com/business/answer/6003589?p=page_hidden&hl=en&rd=1

check back on this article for updates

I’ve now put a weekly reminder on my phone to check back this page. Next, I’ll quit my job to follow through this. Why not, what better use of my time anyway!

A tip for Google

The Google Plus product that you have is fantastic, the unfair advantage you give it on Google rankings is also awesome! If only you could get some real life businesses to test it and for them to be able to reach actual people in the Google Plus team, you’d realise that its working would improve overnight. I just feel that the products aren’t tested by actual people and when your systems change, you probably don’t account for the “genuine, on the ground” hassle that the business owners go through. We have 2000 reviews/ratings on Facebook and we know those are safe. Google Plus is a “touch me not” where everytime you try updating your profile to make it better, you risk losing all your data and the page. Why would a business owner spend time on G+ then?

I am open to speaking with someone from G+Page & Local Listing department regarding my experience and I’m happy to recommend some ideas that I think will make the whole G+ experience way more valuable than it is now. If someone reads it and cares, please get in touch. 9910222770 India.

Also, what’s with this “remove all other listings with the same address” impossibility? What if they weren’t created by me and have wrong phone numbers or slightly incorrect addresses? For example, someone has created a listing with a slightly mismatched address and a wrong phone number with my Business name, what do I do about that?

Jaao, pehle uska sign lekar aao jisne woh listing banayi thi! :p

Why don’t you remove them based on the one that has more genuine reviews or based on the “more recently verified Local listing”? To think about it, that listing came from an old yellow pages directory in the first place, and a newer verified listing with the same name should be allowed to over-write that. I understand that practically it won’t be that easy.

I love the Google plus page and I want to really work on that, I hope Google Plus guys will soon figure out these glitches and allow business owners like me to use the G+ page and Local listings for the actual benefit of my customers.

iPad 2 Eye Strain and Migraine Headache

Enough! I’ve tried looking online for a solution to this headache and tremendous eye strain that I get when using the iPad. Initially when I Googled this problem, I found no results which led me into believing that I was the only one suffering. That was 2 years ago and I had to stop using the Apple iPads to the extent that even looking at a quick video that someone else showed me, or reading a quick line started to give me that weird eye strain and migraine feeling.

Eye strain and migraine headache caused by Apple iPad 2

Lately, that’s after 2 years I realised that it wasn’t just me!! I was in conversation with my sister in law and she said her father couldn’t use the iPad because of eye strain and headache. That’s not all, another friend complained of the same a few weeks ago. With my most precious purchase at one point being completely useless for me, I was obviously not very happy about it. But when you think of the number of people unhappy with the device’s screen, can you imagine what a widely sold health hazard this iPad is!?

The screen of the iPad 2 is pretty crap, very pixelated and throws this sharpish radiation. I also use my laptop almost the entire day, the Google Nexus 5, my latest gadget love and even the iPhone 5. They’re all okay. Infact even the new iPad retina displays seem to be okay as I did use one for a brief period.

Once bitten twice shy. I’m never buying an iPad again! If you too are getting a headache after using the iPad, I suggest you return that piece of agonising machinery back to Apple and ask for your money back. I promise you, you’re not alone, there are thousands suffering from this and in loneliness. No one seems to be writing anything about this or acknowledging it either.

2nd August 2012 Google Pagerank Update Confirmed

The latest Google PR update has taken place today, on the 2nd of August 2012.

The last Google Page Rank update was in May and I have been expecting a PR update for a few weeks now. I first noticed it today at around 23:00 IST. While checking one of my old Internet Marketing websites Modulus Systems, I noticed the change in PR and then on visiting a few others and Google-talking a few friends in other countries, it was confirmed that there was a pagerank update.

This PR update has come in just about 3 months from the previous Google Pagerank update – which is the approximate frequency that Google also mentions in its webmaster guidelines. With the recent Pandas and Penguins and the constant threat of them two, this PR update will make things clear for a few webmasters.

Google Pagerank and its importance now a days: Go back 2-3 years and SEOs used to check their PRs everyday and telling someone you have a PR 7 site was a statement that needed no explanation. All that has changed in my view – Pagerank isn’t the defining factor for topping the SERPs anymore. Its importance with respect to ranking for your finest key-phrases isn’t the same anymore. It is still something that webmasters and SEOs check frequently and it continues to be an important factor when determining the authority and popularity of websites linking to you.

This PR update has been really beneficial for Kapil, a friend of mine who is into internet marketing and high PR link building and has seen a significant PR increase in most of his ongoing projects. Have you seen an increase in PR too?

Letter to Matt Cutts: Google’s Panda Update for India – Case Study

Dear Matt,

We’ve interacted in the past on various platforms which you may/may not remember but that’s not very important right now.

I thought Google may be missing out on providing the highest quality of search results in India that it’s known for, based on what I’ll mention in the next couple of paragraphs.

The Panda update, although great for search experience for the general English speaking world, is not the best idea for a country like India because English is not the native language of most of India’s citizens. English is a secondary language for Indians (you probably noticed the grammatical irregularities during your recent visit to Hyderabad) and therefore, expecting very high quality of written English from “user driven” (not editorial) websites in India is futile. You won’t get that here.

In fact, most users write such bad English that we spend considerable time correcting grammar from their comments on our clients’ websites worrying that these sites might be penalised for bad English. However, this can’t be done for forums or other user generated content.

Examples from an Indian university Q&A website :

   Example above: Bad grammar

Image
Example above: Use of Hindi or another native language between text

Image
Example above: All CAPS and sometimes very little content on one page.

Image
Example above: A mix of all CAPS, bad grammar, but very useful information for other visitors

Very Brief Case Study:

The result of these updates is that most websites that are based on user-user interaction with indexable content have disappeared off Google (or at least that’s what I’ve been noticing recently). A good example perhaps is: http://www.madras-university.in/ (no longer exists as of October 2015) – a site that I built a few years ago because the official university website provided little or no information and a website that has now been adopted by the university and is one of the few reliable sources of information for students of the University of Madras (now Chennai). Every question is answered as accurately as possible by someone from the University but what are you going to do about the quality of English written by the question posters? This site has lost its ranking and so have innumerable others that are based on user content.

You’ve probably had this information before but I thought you needed to know in case you hadn’t.

My suggestion would be applying a milder version of the Panda to countries that have English as their second language so as to put it simply.

Best regards,
Arjun
